Research demonstrates the importance of families eating dinner together. Sharing meals keeps the lines of communication open between parent and child and is particularly crucial during adolescence. It's one of the ways a close family provides stability during a turbulent time in a young person's life. As a mom, you don't need a professional to tell you that eating together is important. It's something you just know. That's why you need to make the effort to have your family eat together as much as possible.

PRIORITIZE FAMILY MEALTIMES
At the same time, our lives get crazy. It's hard to make the time to eat together with all the other commitments, and sometimes it even feels impossible. Scouts and practices and deadlines and meetings and on and on. If you can only make one meal a week a family meal, make it a really good one. Reclaim Sunday dinner from the busy-ness and set the tone for the entire week.
MAKE THE SUNDAY FAMILY MEAL SPECIAL
Sunday used to be a day of rest - relatively speaking, of course. Growing up, it was the day we went to Grandma's for Sunday dinner. She'd roast something and we'd dress nicely...and be nice to each other. Sundays at Grandma's are some of my favorite memories. While we live too far from my kids' grandma to make a weekly trek, we still have Sunday dinner as a family. Every January, I recommit to this practice. We make a commitment to make Sunday dinner a good one. Everyone is home by 5PM and everyone helps. Sometimes there's time enough for a card game after our meal and before bed. We all look forward to this bit of downtime before the week gets crazy again.
